Seven animal hospitals in and around Nashville say on their own websites that they are open 24 hours a day for emergencies. Three are in Nashville, on Sidco Drive, 21st Avenue South, and Annex Avenue. The others are in Brentwood, Franklin, and Murfreesboro, which has two. Northwest of the city, a Clarksville emergency hospital lists round-the-clock hours on every day except Wednesday daytime. Three urgent care clinics, on Gallatin Pike and Charlotte Avenue in Nashville and on Lebanon Pike in Hermitage, keep afternoon and evening hours. If your pet may have swallowed something toxic, two national poison lines answer around the clock.
Addresses, phone numbers, and hours for all eleven facilities were taken from their own websites in September 2026. Hours change, and holiday schedules can differ, so call the number before you drive.
Is This an Emergency?
Nashville Veterinary Specialists, a 24-hour hospital on Sidco Drive, publishes a list of signs that mean you should call or come in right away:
- not breathing, or visibly struggling to breathe
- unresponsive or unable to rouse
- an obvious broken bone
- gums or tongue that are bright red or blue
- a bite or sting from a venomous snake or insect, or one causing a severe reaction
- a bite from a stray animal, or from any animal whose vaccination history is unknown
- sudden paralysis of the back legs, particularly in cats
- a seizure that lasts longer than a couple of minutes, several seizures in a row, or a first seizure
The hospital adds that its list “is not exhaustive and does not cover all possible emergency symptoms.” When you are not sure, the hospitals ask you to call. Nashville Veterinary Specialists asks owners to “[l]et us know what is going on with your pet so that we know what to expect when you arrive.” VEG says you can call and “speak with a veterinarian 24 hours a day.”

On a weeknight after 10 PM, both Livewell clinics have closed and PriorityPet is open until midnight. After midnight, the doors open among these facilities are the seven 24-hour hospitals and, on every night of the week, the Clarksville hospital. On a weekend morning, Livewell’s East Nashville clinic opens at 10 AM, its Midtown clinic at 12 PM, and PriorityPet at 2 PM. Livewell’s East Nashville clinic also lists a shortened schedule on December 24, from 12 PM to 5 PM, and says it is closed on December 25.
Emergency Hospital or Urgent Care?
The urgent care clinics describe a narrower job than the hospitals. PriorityPet says its urgent care is for “non-life-threatening issues,” and its website lists Nashville Veterinary Specialists under the heading “In Case of Emergency.” Livewell’s Midtown clinic asks owners to call it “during business hours” about “any pet emergencies so that we may recommend the best course of action for your pet,” and outside its hours it lists BluePearl on 21st Avenue South and VEG on Annex Avenue. Nashville Veterinary Specialists, for its part, asks owners to call or come to its hospital right away when a pet shows any sign on its list.
The line is not always clear from the living room. If you cannot tell which kind of problem you are facing, call a 24-hour hospital first. VEG’s three hospitals list both kinds of care: VEG West Nashville offers “emergency medical care and urgent care,” and VEG Murfreesboro offers “emergency and urgent care.”
Do You Need to Call First?
The hospitals and clinics handle arrival in different ways.
- Nashville Veterinary Specialists is open for walk-in emergencies 24 hours a day and says, “You don’t need an appointment or referral to use our emergency services.”
- BluePearl asks you to call ahead at both hospitals. The Nashville page says to “call ahead to your BluePearl vet and let us know you’re coming.” The Brentwood page lists its emergency hours as “24/7 Please call ahead for availability” and asks owners to call “so we can talk you through your pet’s situation and prepare for your arrival.”
- VEG does not book appointments (“we don’t take appointments, because we deal with emergencies”) and invites you to “[c]all to speak directly with a doctor or walk in 24/7.” It still recommends “calling first so we’re familiar with the situation when you come in.”
- Animal Medical Center in Murfreesboro tells owners with an emergency, “Call us straight away.”
- Clarksville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty offers mobile check-in during emergency hours: “Text ‘CVES’ to ‘34947’ to start your check-in.”
- Livewell in East Nashville advertises “Same day availability. Walk-ins welcome.” Its Midtown clinic also lists “Same day availability.”
If two people are in the car, one can make the call while the other drives.
Birds, Reptiles, and Other Exotic Pets
VEG says it is “skilled to handle emergency care for avians, reptiles, and all types of exotic pets.” Its Franklin page names “cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, and other exotic pets.” Animal Medical Center and the Clarksville hospital describe their emergency care as care for cats and dogs. If your pet is a bird, a reptile, or another exotic species, say so when you call any hospital, and ask whether the hospital can see that species.
If Your Pet Swallowed Something Toxic
Two national poison lines answer 24 hours a day. Pet Poison Helpline charges a per-incident fee, and the ASPCA says a consultation fee may apply.
- ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center: (888) 426-4435. The ASPCA says it is available “24/7, 365 days a year” and that callers reach “veterinary toxicology experts.”
- Pet Poison Helpline: 855-764-7661. The helpline says “a $89 USD per incident fee applies.”
Pet Poison Helpline lists its first steps in this order: remove your pet from the area; check that your pet is breathing and acting normally; give no home antidotes; and do not induce vomiting “without consulting a vet or Pet Poison Helpline.” If your pet needs to be seen, it says to contact your veterinarian or an emergency clinic immediately.
