Decide what you are hungry for before you pick a place. A Oaxacan tlayuda, a plate of birria tacos with consomé, Sonoran-style dishes with a handmade margarita, oysters from a raw bar, and a street taco late at night come from different Nashville kitchens, and those kitchens keep very different hours. The restaurants run from Nolensville Road and Antioch Pike to the Gulch, downtown, Wedgewood-Houston, East Nashville, Murfreesboro Pike, and Charlotte Pike.
Hours and addresses are taken from each restaurant’s site as of September 2026, and a call before a late-night visit is worth the minute.

Regional Kitchens, in Their Own Words
Oaxaca. El Sabor Pochutleco on Antioch Pike describes its food as “Authentic Mexican Cuisine Oaxaca Style” and lists tlayudas, mole, picaditas, tamales, and entomadas. The restaurant says it serves “traditional dishes from our region in Oaxaca, Mexico.”
Sonora. Rosepepper Cantina in East Nashville specializes in Sonoran-style Mexican food. For margaritas, it says, “we skip the sour mix, use only the best ingredients, and handcraft each margarita.”
Coastal. Mercado in Wedgewood-Houston pairs a “[r]aw bar with fresh East & West Coast oysters, & ceviches” with wood-fired meats and fish tacos.
Birria and home-style plates. México Típico on Murfreesboro Pike lists “Tacos de Birria y Consome,” menudo, caldo de gallina, tacos al carbón, and torta de tamal. Calle Taco in the Gulch serves quesabirria tacos and lists birria pizza and birria nachos among the dishes it is known for.
Modern Mexican. Lona, inside the Noelle downtown, serves contemporary Mexican cuisine by Chef Richard Sandoval, created with Chef Pablo Salas. It lists 221 tequilas and 40 mezcals.
Tortillas Made Close to Home
La Hacienda, Mercado, and Maíz de la Vida each have a direct line to their tortillas. La Hacienda began when the Yepez family moved from Santa Ana, California, in 1992, planning a tortilla manufacturing plant to supply Mexican restaurants; the family opened its restaurant and plant in 1993 on Nolensville Road. Mercado makes its wood-fired tacos with “housemade flour tortillas, fresh-pressed daily.” Maíz de la Vida runs a tortilla shop in North Nashville alongside its Gulch restaurant and an East Nashville taco truck.
From Food Truck to Dining Room
México Típico and Tampico both started on wheels. México Típico says, “We started in 2017 with a Food Truck in Nashville.” Tampico Restaurant & Tienda grew out of Taco TeTe, “a food truck right here on Charlotte Pike,” and now runs a sit-down restaurant “built on the same lot,” with a Mexican market listed as coming soon. Maíz de la Vida also runs a taco truck in East Nashville alongside its restaurant.

Parking downtown and in the Gulch takes planning. Mercado points guests to a public garage at 715 Hagan St., just past the restaurant, and says that if you park in the garage on site and let staff know, it will provide a discount toward the cost. Maíz de la Vida validates 1.5 hours of parking in the Prima Parking Garage at 8th Avenue South and Paseo Place. Lona sits next to Printer’s Alley, two blocks from Broadway.
